Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit, Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Troy Penrose said it was a satisfying result for the team.

“As a result of dedicated police work and modern technology that wasn’t available at the time of the offence police were able to solve this crime,” Det Penrose explains.

“We hope it brings closure to the victim and his family to know that police worked diligently to produce this outcome,” he added.

The man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count each of rape, deprivation of liberty and going armed so as to cause fear.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
