Brent Tate announces retirement

THE long and courageous career of NRL star Brent Tate has officially come to an end.

The 32-year-old Test and Queensland Origin back announced he’s hanging up the boots today, accepting medical advice that he couldn’t make a return after rupturing his ACL in the State of Origin this year.

He’s had a career plagued by injuries, playing the last decade with a neck brace and having three knee reconstructions in the past.

The Cowboys and their fans will say farewell to the star when they take on Manly at home in Townsville on Saturday.

Tate will remain at the Cowboys in an off-field role.
