Brimson leads Gold Coast Titans to victory over Bulldogs

Gold Coast Titans star AJ Brimson has proven he’s worth every dollar after leading the side to a 30 to 20 point victory over the Bulldogs at CBUS Super Stadium.

The 22-year-old fullback shone for the club by scoring a double, just a day after extending his contract for another five years on a reported deal worth more than $3 million.

It’s the Titans second win in their past five matches, putting them back into the top eight on the NRL ladder.

Coach Justin Holbrook said it was a massive relief to secure the victory, especially given they were missing a number of key players including suspended trio David Fifita, Herman Ese’ese and Tyrone Peachey.

“It felt like that second half went for about three hours,” Holbrook told reporters following the clash.

“Just really important that we won… Obviously a heavy loss last week so it was really important for our season to get the win today.

Brimson nabbed man of the match, with Holbrook heaping praise on the newly signed fullback.

“His support play to come up with two tries is pretty important and it’s been a big week for our club having a young star of the game resign with us for a long period, and to come out and play the way he did was great for us.

“We love him, all the young kids in the area love him, I know my kids do… I said “watch the news boys” and they announced he had extended for five years and my boy turned to me and said why didn’t you sign him for ten?!

“As I said, he’s so important for our era… the way he plays footy, he’s tough, he’s competitive and he’s a try-scorer and he’s what young kids want to see when they’re looking at footy players”.

Despite the win overnight, Holbrook admitted the club still has a lot to work on.

“We did well… we were in control of the game in the first half, we did a few good tackles and then the next minute they’ve gone the length of the field and they’re back in the game and then sort of similar in the second half.

“So we just have to keep building, we have to get a lot better.”

The Titans will now head off to Coffs Harbour in round 12 to take on the Cronulla Sharks.
