Brisbane Airport reopens after security scare

FLIGHTS are slowly resuming in and out of Brisbane tonight after an earlier security breach forced the airport’s closure.

All arriving and departing flights were suspended for almost two hours after a woman drove her car through a fence and onto the runway around 9.30pm.

In all, ten Brisbane bound flights from Perth, Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney were diverted to Gold Coast Airport while the Australian Federal Police investigated the matter.

Other planes, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, were put into holding patterns above the city.

Departing flights were also put on hold until the all clear was given around 11.20pm.

Passengers should still expect delays and are urged to check with their airline for any schedule changes.
