Brisbane man charged with murder of missing American beauty queen

The ex-partner of a former American beauty queen, who has been missing from the Brisbane area for almost a year, has been charged with her murder.

Police confirmed on Thursday, Detectives charged the 43-year-old man following a fresh lead into the investigation into the disappearance of Priscilla Brooten.

The 46-year-old US citizen had been living in Australia, but had not been seen since July 2018.

She was reported missing by concerned family and friends in December.

The Zumba dance teacher had reportedly been in a long-term relationship with the accused prior to her disappearance. But, he did not notify police when she went missing.

Forensic officers last week went to a Bracken Ridge home, believed to be owned by the 43-year-old, and began excavating the site as part of a seven-day crime scene warrant.

Cadaver dogs were also brought in to try and locate Ms Brooten’s body.

The man is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
