Brisbane man spiked wife’s drink before raping her, court hears

A MAN has appeared in court, accused of drugging and raping his wife two days after their wedding anniversary.

The 48-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, reportedly prepared a glass of cordial for his wife, which was allegedly spiked with temazepam.

The woman, who was 29 at the time of the assault in 2007, allegedly woke up naked with her husband sexually assaulting her, he is then accused of raping her.

The jury heard the woman was unable to control her limbs and forensic testing revealed the glass contained the drug temazepam.

Once the woman regained consciousness, she phoned 000 and her husband fled.

Police were unable to track the man down, until he was finally located in Sydney in 2013.
