Young Roar winger Brandon Borrello doubled the lead just 10 minutes later with a powerful shot into the bottom corner from close range.
Brisbane crowd favourite Henrique sealed the victory just seconds from full time with a 45m shot into an empty net after Melbourne City goalkeeper, former Danish international Thomas Sorensen, ventured forward to contest a last-minute corner.
The Roar are the first side to defeat Melbourne City since November 13, a streak that lasted five matches.
Roar midfielder Corona was player-of-the-match after a classy and cool-headed performance in midfield which Roar Head Coach John Aloisi rated the Spaniard’s best performance since joining the club at the start of the season.
Aloisi praised the high quality of the match and his side’s dominant first half.
“It was an entertaining match where both teams wanted to win and we were happy to come away with the three points,” Aloisi said.
We’re just trying to improve every week and go out to win every football game and tonight was no different.”
