Police said the 33-year-old woman from Brisbane was pronounced deceased before she could be taken to hospital.
A 41-year-old man who had also been travelling in the tinny sustained a less serious head injury and was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.
He is believed to be in a stable condition.
In a statement released just before 8.30pm, police said it was believed the tinny had turned into the path of the larger cruiser, causing the two boats to collide.
No one onboard the larger cruiser was injured.
Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
