British man arrested after violent sexual assault

A British man has been arrested after allegedly violently attacking a man and sexually assaulting a woman in the Snowy Mountains last week.

The 28-year-old was arrested this morning after an extensive investigation.

The man and woman, in their 20s, were walking home around 1:30 AM when a group of men approached them from across the road.

The 25-year-old man was attacked first and knocked out.

After this, the 22-year-old woman was sexually and physically assaulted on the footpath.

When the male victim regained consciousness he tried to stop the assault but was struck again.

He eventually was able to flag down another car for help.

It’s understood there were three men who attacked the pair, they ran off when the car slowed down.

The victims were treated on the scene by paramedics for facial injuries before being taken to separate hospitals for further treatment and examination.

Police are concerned the group of men were holiday goers who have already left town.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
