Broadwater houseboat bursts into flames
A HOUSEBOAT moored in the Gold Coast broadwater has been destroyed by fire.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Harry’s Island in the Broadwater at Main Beach after the vessel exploded into flames shortly after 10.30am on Friday.
Thick black smoke could be seen from kilometres away as water police, fire crews and Seaworld staff doused the boat with water.
The owner, a man in his 60s, managed to escape and made it to shore in a small inflatable boat
He was not on board at the time his boat exploded but was treated for shock by paramedics after losing everything he owned.
It remains unclear how the blaze started.
