AFTER two weeks of intense pressure, Federal Speaker Bronwyn Bishop has fallen on her sword.
The veteran politician tendered her resignation yesterday, despite stubbornly refusing to do so after the first of many revelations concerning her grandiose use of taxpayer-funded travel.
A $5000 private helicopter flight from Melbourne to Geelong for a Liberal fund-raiser came to light last month and prompted major backlash from the public and political rivals.

It was then revealed, Mrs Bishop chartered a private flight, worth $6000, from Sydney to Nowra (a distance of less than 200km) for another party fund-raiser.
While more than $1000 was splashed out on private limos when she attended a theatre premiere in Sydney.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced the resignation yesterday, but refused to place blame, instead pointing the finger at the ‘system’ and ordering a review into MPs’ entitlements.
Mrs Bishop will stay on as the member of Mackellar.
