Burleigh Waters man charged following dramatic arrest at Mudgeeraba
UPDATE: A MAN’S been arrested during dramatic scenes on the Gold Coast overnight after he allegedly evaded police on the M1 at Mudgeeraba.
It is alleged the 26-year-old Burleigh Waters man was traveling south on the Pacific Motorway at Merrimac when he caught the attention of police around 9pm.
Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle for a traffic offence, but it failed to stop. Police said they never pursued the vehicle.
A short time later, the man’s car was found abandoned in construction lanes of the M1 at Mudgeeraba.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly found a number of suspected stolen items.
Reinforcements, including the dog squad, were called to help search for the man who’d sprinted towards an underground car park.
But the dog squad were in hot pursuit and located the man hiding in bushes outside the Bell Place Shopping Centre just before 10pm.
The police dog was released and apprehended the offender who was bitten and left with a minor puncture wound.
He’s since been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, serious assault of police, fail to stop, possession of a restricted item (baton), possession of tainted property and possession of an explosive (firework).
He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
