Burn-off likely to result in heavy smoke around northern GC suburbs

Northern Gold Coast residents are being warned not to be alarmed if they see or smell smoke today with crews expected to conduct a hazard reduction burn in the area.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services say the planned burn is scheduled to be conducted within Pine Ridge Conservation Park in Hollywell on Wednesday.

“Smoke may be seen in the Hollywell, Coombabah and Runaway Bay areas,” QFES advised.

The burn is likely to continue on Thursday.

Wongawallan residents may also be affected, with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service crews expected to set fire to an area within Gladrose Reserve near Welches Road from Wednesday to Friday.

Residents in the above areas are being urged to close their windows and doors, with smoke expected to affect the area.

Residents suffering from respiratory conditions should also keep their medications close by.
