This morning a Surfside Buslines bus pulled into the drop-off area in front of the school with smoke billowing from the rear.

Passengers, including seven students from Arundel State School, quickly exited the bus.

School staff acted quickly and with student safety in mind, gathered students in a well ventilated area. They also cordoned off the area to keep any bystanders from getting close to the bus.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, Queensland Police Service and Queensland Ambulance Service were called and arrived soon after.

The drop-off area at the front of the school will be closed until the bus is removed and the area is cleaned.

The Arundel Primary students who were on the bus have met with the School Guidance Officer and their parents have been contacted to advise they are safe.

An SMS message was sent to the entire school community to notify them of the incident, while a whole school assembly was called to brief students.

School will proceed as normal today.

I’d like to give special praise to my staff for the way they handled this situation.
