Busy day for Energex crews on the Gold Coast

IT HAS been a busy day for Energex crews on the Gold Coast with multiple power outages affecting more than 2,000 homes and businesses.

At around 11.30am, 1500 customers were blacked out in Broadbeach Waters, including parts of the Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, following a fault on overhead lines in the area.

Graham Metcalf from Energex said crews managed to restore power to the majority of those affected “pretty quickly”.

Around 80 customers in the area surrounding and including Rudd Street remain without power, with an estimated restoration time of 6pm.

Crews are still in the area carrying out inspections and conducting safety checks.

Meanwhile, around 700 customers in Broadbeach lost power when an underground cable was damaged just after 2pm.

Power was restored to half of those affected within 30 minutes. By 4pm, 100% of power was restored through back-up systems.

Crews are still in the conducting emergency repairs.
