Busy Gold Coast beach evacuated after suspected shark sighting

SURFERS Paradise beach has been evacuated after a suspected shark sighting.

Swimmers and boardriders were told to come in just after 11am following reports of a shark in the area.

Lifeguards have removed the flags at the popular tourist spot as a precaution.

They will continue to survey the area before beachgoers will be allowed back in the water.

I watched the whole thing from my patio! It looked like they lost a swimmer as they were franctinly searching back and forth, so I got the binoculars out and it was a large pod of dolphins. One thing though… if they suspected a shark sighting… why wasn’t the beach to the south (about 500m.) evacuated also?
