Buyers splash over $40 million on first day of Magic Millions Yearling Sale

The 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale is off to a flying start on the Gold Coast, with over $40 million splashed on horses on the opening day on Tuesday.

Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said it was a record Gold Coast Yearling Sale opener.

“It’s an extremely solid start to the sale,” he said. “If someone had offered that result at the start of the day I’d have taken it!”

“It was a deep, strong market and there were plenty of people bidding. We were finding buyers at all levels.”

“There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge but it’s a great start,” Bowditch added.

The latest yearling from former Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen was the highest sale on Day One, selling for $950,000.

Three other yearlings sold for $900,000 across the day.

Organisers of the event are hoping for another big day with the sales continuing at the Magic Millions Sales Complex in Bundall this morning.
