Bystanders perform CPR on child pulled from Coomera River

A young boy has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after being pulled from the flooded Coomera River.

The child, whose age is unknown, is believed to have been in a kayak when he came into trouble in the water about 6.10pm on Sunday.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said bystanders performed CPR on the youngster at a location on Illinbah Road, Illinbah until emergency services arrived on scene.

The child was revived and rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital with the assistance of a critical care paramedic.

QAS said the High Acuity Response Unit was also called to the near-drowning incident.

It comes after an 18-year-old man died after being swept away in raging flood waters caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen in North Queensland on Sunday.
