Car bursts into flames underneath Gold Coast unit block

Police are looking into a car fire in Mermaid Beach, which caused a bit of damage to a unit block along Albatross Avenue.

Fire fighters were called to the scene around 2.45am, where a car was on fire in a carport underneath a two storey building.

They had the flames under control within half and hour, before conducting atmospheric testing and ventilation.

Paramedics were on standby for the incident, but luckily no one required treatment.

It’s understood there was some damage to the building’s hot water system and some cables, which were situated underneath the building.

The individual units were ok.

Fire fighters left the scene in the hands of police around 4.30am, with investigators now looking into the cause of the blaze.
