Woman charged after car and bus collide in Southport

UPDATE @ 5.30 PM | The driver of a car involved in a collision with a bus in Southport this afternoon has been arrested.

The accident happened at the intersection of Scarborough Street and Short Street around 1.30pm.

Thankfully the bus didn’t sustain much damage and no passengers or the driver were injured.

However the driver of the car, a 33-year-old woman, was taken into custody after officers found suspected stolen property during a search of her vehicle.

The woman, from Keperra, has since been charged with one count of suspected stolen property.

EARLIER @ 2.00 PM | A car has caught fire after colliding with a bus in Southport this afternoon.

The accident happened at the busy intersection of Scarborough Street and Short Street around 1.30pm.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told myGC that thankfully all bus passengers and the female driver of the car appear to have escaped uninjured.

However, paramedics are still checking over some passengers.

The car fire was extinguished before fire crews arrived on scene, however motorists are being urged to drive with caution in the area.
