Car clocked tearing down highway at almost 200km/h

A DISQUALIFIED driver has been caught behind the wheel of a car, travelling at almost 200km/h along a highway on the NSW Mid North Coast.

The 35-year-old man from Queensland was spotted driving a Ford Falcon sedan at 196km/h along the Pacific Highway at Raleigh about 4pm on Friday.

Officers tried to intercept the vehicle but instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and a pursuit commenced.


Police said the driver of the sedan eventually stopped in a break down lane near East West Road.

The 35-year-old was arrested and has since been charged with drive manner dangerous, driving while disqualified and supplying a prohibited drug.

His passenger, also a 35-year-old man from Queensland, was also charged in relation to two outstanding warrants.

Both men were remanded in custody last night and due to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court today.
