Car clocked travelling at 260km/h in the dark with its lights off

A CAR without its headlights on has been clocked travelling at 260km/h on a motorway in the middle of night south of Sydney.

Police were patrolling the M1 Princes Motorway north of Helensburgh about 2.30am on Sunday when they detected the blue Nissan 200SX flying along the motorway at 150km/h above the speed limit with its lights off.

Officers eventually stopped the vehicle at Heathcote and spoke with the driver – a 22-year-old man from Queensland.


The young driver was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with driving recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and exeeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

The man was also charged with driving in the dark with no lights.

He was remanded in custody overnight and due to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today.
