Car driver critically injured in horror smash with truck

A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a shocking crash on Queensland’s Darling Downs.

It happened on the Warrego Highway, about 10 kilometres west off Dalby, just after 10am.

Police said the woman’s car crossed onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a truck before smashing into a third vehicle.

The driver of the first car, a woman in her 50s, was badly injured and airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver and passenger from the third vehicle were trapped in the wreckage for a short time.

They were eventually freed and taken to Dalby Hospital. A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said one of them was in a serious condition.

Police said the driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries.

The Warrego Highway remained closed to traffic while the scene was examined on Wednesday afternoon.

Traffic has been diverted along the Old Warrego Highway.
