Car fire almost engulfs elderly woman

A CYCLIST has saved an elderly woman from a massive car fire in Benowa.

It’s believed the lady lost control of her new Audi when suffering a medical episode on Edinburgh Street around 10.30am.

A man riding past managed to pull her to safety and call emergency crews.

“She’s got out before the car exploded,” Paramedic Jayson Hacker has told Channel Nine.

The driver, believed to be in her 70s, has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

“I could see the smoke from Gold Coast Uni (hospital) when we left,” Mr Hacker says of the massive smoke cloud the fire created.

Some locals thought there must have been a major building fire, as smoke rose high into the sky following the car fire.
