Car hit by G:Link tram in Southport

UPDATE: THE first ever tram and car accident has happened on the Gold Coast.

A G:Link tram collided with a silver Honda sedan just before midday at the intersection of Queen Street and Nerang Street in Southport.

Witnesses say the car was in the middle of making an alleged illegal u-turn when it was t-boned by the tram.

The tram was undergoing routine track testing at the time of the accident.

The right hand driver’s door and passenger door of the car was damaged in the accident, with the vehicle needing to be towed from the scene. The damage to the tram is unknown.

An elderly man was believed to be driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

No one was injured during the incident.
