Car left hanging over edge of multi-storey carpark after terrifying mishap

UPDATE: A driver has miraculously escaped injury after driving through a guardrail on the top level of a multi-storey carpark in Sydney this morning.

Emergency services raced to the Westmead hospital carpark around 8.00am after receiving reports of a car dangling over the edge and a female driver trapped inside.

NSW rescue crews secured the vehicle and the driver, a 50-year-old woman from Newcastle, was able to climb out safely.

She was treated at the scene for shock.

Police say it’s believed the rear of the vehicle caught onto a fence on the other side of the car park, which prevented it from falling to the lower level.

A tow truck has been called to remove the car.

EARLIER: A rescue operation is currently underway in Sydney with a car dangling over the edge of a multi-storey carpark.

Emergency services raced to the Westmead hospital carpark around 8.00am this morning after receiving reports a car had crashed through a guardrail on the second level.

Rescue crews have since retrieved the driver from the vehicle, however a delicate operation is ongoing to secure the car, which can be seen hanging over the edge.

The driver escaped injury however is receiving treatment for shock.
