EARLIER: POLICE are urging motorists to make sure their cars are locked when left unattended following a spike in thefts from vehicles on the northern Gold Coast.

Two men have been caught on camera stealing wallets and small valuable items from unlocked cars at Coomera and in Pimpama, with 26 incidents reported to police in the past six weeks.

Detective Sergeant Todd Miller said the thieves use stolen credit cards to hire taxis and purchase assorted goods from various service stations across the northern end of the coast.

“It is a timely reminder to make sure your vehicle is secured regardless of where it is parked,” Detective Sergeant Miller said.

“Make sure to remove valuables from your vehicle or ensure they are out of sight.

“Most criminals are opportunistic and if they see an easy target they’ll pounce.”

Detectives from Taskforce Latro West at Coomera have released CCTV footage of the two men they believe may be able to assist with their investigations:

Investigators are urging anyone who may be able to identify the men to contact Crime Stoppers or their local police station.
