A GOLD Coast driver has been stopped short of pulling into a tram station after ignoring a clearly posted ‘No Entry’ sign and driving along a section of tracks in Southport this morning.

Witnesses say the small car was travelling north along Scarborough Street around 11am when it entered the tracks after illegally turning left down Nerang Street.

Nearby traffic controllers were quick to intervene, stopping the vehicle short of pulling into a light rail passenger station.

The incident unfolded all while another tram headed the opposite direction cruised passed on the second line.

Images of the close call show the vehicle being reversed out of its sticky situation.
