Car smashes into telegraph pole during police chase in NSW

A man will face court in September after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through the Illawarra region.

Police say they detected a Holden Commodore sedan speeding down Keira Street in Tarrawanna just before 4.30pm on Friday.

Officers signalled for the vehicle to stop however the driver allegedly ignored police and speed off.

Officers pursued the vehicle onto Caldwell Avenue where it struck a telegraph pole.

Miraculously, the driver and sole occupant of the car, a 25-year-old Thirroul man, was not injured.

He was issued a Court Attendance Notice for negligent driving and driving in a dangerous manner.

His licence was confiscated on the spot and his Commodore towed from the scene.

He will appear in Wollongong Local Court on 6 September.
