Extreme delays after car takes out traffic light on Gold Coast Highway

ONE person has been taken to hospital after a car slammed into a set of traffic lights on the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh Heads.

The accident happened at the intersection with Ikkina Road at around 12:30pm.

One person has been taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.


Queensland Ambulance said the patient was transported in a stable condition.

The force of the crash has cut power to the traffic lights at the intersection.

As a result, extensive delays are being experienced through the area, affecting both directions.

At least one southbound lane has been blocked. Police are on the scene, directing traffic.

Motorists have been urged to seek an alternate route if possible.
