Car takes out traffic light in Gold Coast crash

A car has wiped out a set of traffic lights at a major intersection on the Gold Coast.

The accident happened at the intersection of North and Scarborough Streets in Southport around 5.30pm.

It’s understood a vehicle careered straight through the intersection and collided with a traffic light in a centre median.


The force of the collision was so great, the light pole was torn straight out of the ground.

The wreckage has since been cleared and traffic is flowing through the area however the lights remain blacked out.

Fire fighters and Energex crews remain at the scene.
