Carer charged over shocking assault of severely disabled child in NSW

A CARER has been arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he allegedly assaulted a severely disabled nine-year-old boy at a care facility in NSW.

The shocking assault allegedly took place last month at a care facility in the NSW Illawarra region.

The 34-year-old male carer allegedly repeatedly abused, assaulted and threatened to hurt the boy, who police said is “severely disabled” and cannot speak, on Saturday 5 November and Sunday 6 November.


Following extensive investigations, the man was arrested at Wollongong Police Station at around 11.30 this morning and has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 24 January.

The man is no longer working at the facility and his working with children clearance has been revoked.
