Cassie Sainsbury reportedly seeking government funding for legal aid
Accused drug smuggler Cassandra Sainsbury is reportedly seeking Australian Government funding to help pay her legal costs.
The 22-year-old’s Colombian lawyer said his client had signed forms requesting financial assistance in her fight for freedom, News Corp reports.
If successful, it means that Australian Taxpayers could end up paying Sainsbury’s legal aid.
Ms Sainsbury was taken into custody at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport earlier this month after nearly 6 kilograms of cocaine was allegedly found inside her suitcase.
The young woman claims she is innocent and is fighting the charges.
