Two kids hit by car in Sydney

Two young schoolboys have been hit by a car in Sydney today.

The boys, aged seven and nine, were struck on a road in Hurtsville.

It’s believed they were hit after stepping out from behind a parked car.

They miraculously escaped without any serious injuries.


Child abducted at knife-point by man in white van

Police are investigating a frightening report of a child abduction in Sydney’s south-west today.

About 8.15am, Monday 9 November 2015, a 12-year-old boy left his Chester Hill home to walk to school.

A white van reportedly pulled up next to the boy at the corner of Moss Street and Miller Road.

It’s been reported a man wearing a balaclava got out of the van and approached the child.

Police have been told the man was holding a knife, which he used to cut the boy’s school jacket.

The boy has told police the man picked him up and put him into the back of the van, before driving through a number of local streets.

The van stopped in Weemala Street, near Frost Lane.

Officers have been told the child then jumped out of the side door of the van and ran home, where he rang his father.

The boy was not injured during the incident.

Police from Bankstown Local Area Command are investigating the report, and appealing for information about a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man has been described to police as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, with no hair, and with small writing tattooed in his neck. He was wearing a long-sleeve shirt, gloves and dark track pants.

VIDEO: Man filmed doing burnouts on busy Sydney street

A man has been charged after he was filmed driving dangerously at Brighton-Le-Sands.

Just before 4.30pm yesterday, Sunday 8 November 2015, police received reports that a vehicle was driving dangerously and performing burnouts along Bay Street.

In footage obtained by 9NEWS, the Nissan 200SX can be seen drifting and performing a burnout for about 200 metres, narrowly avoiding multiple collisions with other vehicles.

Officers from St George Local Area Command attended and spoke to witnesses before viewing mobile phone footage of the incident.

Following inquiries, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attended a home at Hurstville overnight.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Kogarah Police Station where he was charged with drive manner dangerous; aggravated burnout; and drive whilst NSW visiting permit withdrawn.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on 3 December 2015.

Man killed in construction site explosion

A man has died in an underground construction site explosion in Melbourne’s southeast.

Emergency services rushed to Medley Close, Harkaway just after 11.40am following reports of a man trapped down a trench.

They treated the man at the scene, however he tragically passed away not long after.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Body discovered in water tank believed to be missing man

The body of a man, believed to be missing 60-year-old Leonard Watkinson has been discovered in a water tank.

Watkinson was last seen by his partner working near a dam on a Yass property on October 5.

A major search operation was launched by NSW police last month, however it failed to find any trace of Mr Watkinson.

A report will now be prepared for the coroner.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
