QUEENSLAND is in the midst of an unprecedented gastro outbreak, with almost 200 children reportedly falling ill at daycare centres across the state.
In Queensland, an outbreak of gastroenteritis is defined by more than two confirmed cases of the virus in the same location within a three-day period.
According to media reports on Thursday, 35 childcare centres in Brisbane alone reported an outbreak in the two months between June 15 and August 14.
At least 198 children have contracted the virus so far – 176 more cases than this time last year.
Queensland Health has since confirmed they are currently dealing with an outbreak.
Parents are being urged to keep their children at home if they start to show symptoms as centres try to control the spread of infection.
