CCTV vision captures choas in Murwillumbah

INCREDIBLE footage has emerged of a driver allegedly causing major destruction in the heart of Murwillumbah.

The usually sleepy northern NSW village has made headlines, after the man allegedly smashed into another car carrying an elderly couple and put a number of police officers in danger.

The 30-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, initially caught the attention of Police on Wednesday when allegedly spotted doing burnouts.

Security footage released by Channel Nine shows the man allegedly trying to evade Police before smashing into another car carrying an 80-year-old man and his wife, 70, and driving into a group of officers, knocking one into the air.

The 70-year-old woman was taken to Murwillumbah Hospital for further treatment with a suspected fractured sternum.

A police officer required treatment for minor injuries.

The man fronted Byron Bay court yesterday and was released on bail, to the frustration of the arresting officers.
