Changed conditions at The Spit for Aust Day weekend

With the Australia Day long weekend fast approaching, locals and visitors are being advised of some changed traffic conditions.

In a bid to help reduce congestion along Waterways Drive and Seaworld Drive in Main Beach, there will be restrictions set up.

Divisional Councillor Lex Bell said the arrangements would help reduce traffic congestion around The Spit over the long weekend.

“There will be vehicular restrictions to the Spit at Main Beach on Sunday 26/01/14 from 6am-8pm, and then again on Monday 27/01/14 from 6am to 8pm,” Cr Bell said.

The restrictions relate to the closure of the ‘finger’ section of the Spit to all vehicles, with a limit to the overall number of vehicles being permitted to the Spit area in general.

There are also changed traffic conditions between Broadbeach and Southport for the construction of the Light Rail.

Overhead wires are now live between Southport and Surfers Paradise and trams are testing along the tracks, so be sure to keep an eye out for the light rail vehicles.
