Charges laid after 5 y o boy shot in Sydney’s southwest

A woman faces charges after a five-year-old boy was shot at a home in Sydney’s southwest.

A man, believed to be the boy’s father, has also been charged after the child was hit in the hip by a bullet as he was playing with his sister in a bedroom of the Lurnea house late on May 1.

He was taken to a nearby Hospital by his parents.  Police later searched the family car.

A 37-year-old Lurnea woman was arrested on Thursday and charged with hindering an investigation into a serious indictable offence, and possession of an unauthorised prohibited firearm and ammunition without authority.

A 41-year-old Lurnea man, thought to be the boy’s father, was arrested and charged on Monday with possessing a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition without authority, and hindering a police investigation.

The pair has been granted bail to appear in Liverpool Local Court later in the month.
