Charlie Sheen reveals he is HIV positive

Actor Charlie Sheen has confirmed that he is HIV positive during an exclusive TV interview in the U.S.

“I am here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive,” Sheen, 50, said on the NBC morning talk show Today on Tuesday.

Sheen, who was once the highest paid TV actor, revealed he has known of his illness for about four years but does not know how he contracted the virus.

During the interview, he revealed he had been paying people who knew about it large amounts of money to keep it quiet. It’s believed he has paid nearly $10 million to various people over past 4 years and he is now coming clean to stop those “shakedowns”.

“What people forget is that it’s money taken from my children,” he said about the extortion. Sheen has been married three times and has five children.

Asked if he is still paying such money, he said “Not after today, I am not. I think I released myself from this prison today.”

Sheen said that when he first started feeling sick – with terrible migraines and sweating so much at night that it drenched his bed – he thought he had a brain tumour and was close to death.

After undergoing tests – “spinal taps, all that crap” – doctors gave him the diagnosis that he had the virus that causes AIDS.

“Its a hard three letters to absorb, you know? It’s a turning point in one’s life,” Sheen said.

Sheen said that since he got his diagnosis he has told all of his sexual partners about it before having intercourse. He also said he was certain that he had not passed on the virus to any of his partners.

One of Sheen’s ex girlfriend’s Bree Olson claims she was never told of his diagnosis. Following his revelation, the Olsen went on Howard Stern’s radio show saying the actor allegedly told her he was “clean” during their relationship. “He never said anything to me,” she said. “We had sex almost every day for a year.” She has been tested though and said she is HIV negative.

Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller has confirmed her and her children with Sheen – 6-year-old twins, Max and Bob – are HIV negative. Another ex-wife, Denise Richards, and her three children with the actor – 11-year-old Sam and 10-year-old Lola – are also reportedly HIV negative.
