Check-out chick injured after Coffs Harbour supermarket robbed at gunpoint

A WOMAN has been injured after the supermarket she works for was robbed at gunpoint on the NSW North Coast yesterday.

Police say a man entered the Coffs Harbour supermarket at about 5.30pm, violently grabbed the female attendant and threatened her with a gun.

Brandishing the firearm inside the Park Beach Road store, the man ordered the woman to empty the till before fleeing with a stash of cash in a gold Nissan X-trail which police say was stolen from a McCauleys Headland car park earlier in the afternoon.

Officers swooped on the area and established a crime scene but were unable to locate the gunman whose stolen getaway car was found abandoned and set alight a short time later on Condon Street.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the robbery, vehicle theft, or the identity of the man, who has only been described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, to come forward.

Fortunately, the attendant escaped the terrifying ordeal with only minor injuries.
