The Gold Coast is set to get a brand new pub, with plans for the future of the old ‘Melbas‘ now revealed.
The iconic site will soon breathe new life as a ‘gastro pub’, to be known as The Cavill Hotel, which will have edgy wooden accents and 1950s style artwork paired with greenery throughout.
As well as the new contemporary fitout, a stellar dining experience and state of the art gaming lounge hopes to help the hotel become the new go-to venue in the heart of Surfers Paradise.

Hallmark Group Director Matt Heanen says it’s clear that gastro pubs are becoming popular again around the Gold Coast, while The Cavill Hotel will also pay homage to Brisbane hotelier and pioneer, Jim Cavill.
“We anticipate The Cavill Hotel will quickly cement its reputation as one of Surfers Paradise’s most loved venues with something for everyone, so it’s an incredibly exciting offering to bring to the Gold Coast.
“The impressive sports bar and gaming lounge will be a hero offering for The Cavill Hotel, combined with reliable and homely service, a delicious modern menu, expansive beverage options and excellent TAB facilities with luxury seating all under the one roof,” Mr Heanen said.
“While it is the end of an era for Melbas, we’re beyond excited to breathe new life into the former buzzing nightspot and offer Gold Coasters a new and improved Cavill Avenue experience in a location they already know and love,” Mr Heanen said.
“Jim Cavill played an integral role in developing the glitter strip, launching The Surfers Paradise Hotel back in 1925 – the first attraction of the suburb.
“The new venue will celebrate both this history and the suburb’s longstanding local reputation,” he added.
