UPDATE at 12:15 PM THURSDAY | A FOUR-year-old boy has tragically died in hospital after being run over by a 4WD in front of his family in Townsville.
The awful accident happened in a car park outside a ten-pin bowling alley on High Range Drive on Wednesday.
The child was leaving the Kingpin Bowling centre with his family when police say tragedy struck around 12.20pm.

The little boy was struck after running between parked cars and into the path of a moving Toyota dual cab ute.
He was rushed to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Police released a statement on Thursday, confirming the little boy sadly passed away from his injuries overnight.
The driver stopped and helped render assistance before being interviewed, and breath and drug tested by police.
The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
No charges have been laid.

Police said the four-year-old boy was leaving the centre on High Range Drive with his family just before 12.20pm on Wednesday when tragedy struck.
It’s understood the little boy was run over after wandering into the path of a 4WD utility in the car park.
Family members and witnesses rushed to administer first aid to the child who suffered life-threatening injuries before racing him to Townsville Hospital.
The child is believed to still be in a critical condition, police said in a statement a short time ago.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
