Boy critically injured in Gold Coast dog attack dies in hospital

UPDATE | A young boy, critically injured in a dog attack on the Gold Coast has died in hospital.

The five-year-old was bitten on the neck and back at a home in Varsity Lakes just before 12.30pm on Friday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and were forced to give the boy a blood transfusion.


He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but died while undergoing emergency surgery.

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.

The dog has been seized by Council officers.

EARLIER | A young boy has been rushed to hospital after being mauled by a dog at a home on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to a house in Varisty Lakes just before 12.30pm following reports a child had been attacked by a dog.

Upon arrival, they found the youngster suffering multiple bites to his body.

The five-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson confirmed the High Acuity Response Unit was on board for transport.
