A 5-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being knocked unconscious by an alleged thief at a shopping centre in Sydney.
A 30-year-old man has now been charged over the alleged assault, which happened at Lidcombe Shopping Centre around 2.40pm on Sunday.
Police allege the man tried to buy a phone at a store inside the centre, but fled with the device when his card declined.

The store attendant and other shoppers chased after the man and detained him for a short time, however he managed to break free and run off through the centre.
Whilst trying to escape, police say the man allegedly collided with a 5-year-old boy who was knocked unconscious.
Members of the public managed to again detain the man until police arrived on scene, while the young boy was taken to hospital for treatment.
The youngster is reported to be in a stable condition with minor head injuries.
The man was also taken to hospital for treatment for injuries before being arrested and taken to Auburn Police Station.
He has since been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, stealing, dishonestly obtain property by deception and two counts of goods in custody.
The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today.
