Child on scooter hit and killed by ute

A CHILD has been killed after being run over by a car in North Queensland.

It happened on Saint Francis Drive at Moranbah, west of Mackay, about 12pm on Sunday.

Police said the six-year-old boy was riding a scooter when he was struck by a utility.


Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, the boy could not be saved.

Police said the child was rushed to Moranbah Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The 35-year-old man driving the ute was not injured and is assisting police with their inquiries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
