Police said initial investigations indicated the vehicle was travelling at low speed and the child was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The 70-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the car was not physically injured. He stopped to render assistance and passed a roadside breath test.

Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the incident and are reminding motorists and students to take extra care around bus and school zones.
