SURF lifesavers are pleading with parents to keep a close eye on their children at the beach after a group of kids were saved from drowning in a mass rescue on the Gold Coast.
Five children needed saving after becoming caught in a gutter at Surfers Paradise around midday.
Surf Life Saving Queensland said the children had been swimming outside the red and yellow flags.

The mass rescue came after lifesavers saved a 6-year-old girl from a rip at Currumbin.
She too had reportedly been swimming outside the flags.
“Parents, we urge you to supervise your kids this last weekend of school holidays,” SLSQ said on Twitter.
“Please swim between the flags.”
