Christmas Day tragedy as toddler drowns in NSW lake

Christmas Day has ended in tragedy for one family in the New South Wales Hunter, with a three-year-old boy drowning.

The toddler was pulled unconscious from water at Lake Macquarie at Rathmines around 6.30pm last night.

Bystanders rendered first aid until paramedics arrived, but sadly the child could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police have now commenced inquiries into the fatal incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

The tragic accident occurred just one day after another three-year-old boy drowned on the Gold Coast, after he was pulled from a popular swimming lagoon at Labrador.
