Coast lashed with wet weather

Gold Coasters woke to the sound of rain on the roof this morning with wet weather setting in on the Coast for the day.

According to BOM, heavy rain is expected to stick around for most of the day, easing off towards late afternoon.

At 8.00am this morning it was 17 degrees at the seaway with a top of 20 degrees expected around midday.

Motorists have been urged to drive with caution on the roads with the wet weather already causing havoc.

A truck has rolled on Varsity Parade at Varsity Lakes. Emergency services are currently at the scene treating the driver, a man aged in his 50s.

A car has also caught alight on the Nerang north off-ramp with fire crews working to extinguish the blaze.

Traffic is heavy both north and southbound on the Pacific Motorway from Oxenford to Nerang and again at Mudgeeraba and Currumbin.

Tips for driving in wet weather: Turn your headlights on, avoid puddles, maintain a safe distance, be patient, look out for debris.
