Comm Games Minister urges LNP to stop political sniping

The Minister for the Commonwealth Games wants to stop the political point scoring before the event starts in April.

With only 50 days to go until the Games on the Gold Coast, Minister Kate Jones says she’s sick of the negative comments from Liberal and National Party members.

“The Gold Coast community wants to see their political leaders working together to deliver the best Commonwealth Games ever,” she told MyGC.

“When there’s due criticism or concerns raised, absolutely we’ll cop that on the chin but I think everyone is getting tired of this sniping from the sidelines.”

The Minister added she thought it was hypocritical for LNP Leader Deb Frecklington to bag Labor’s extended trading hours after Gold Coast LNP member John Paul Langbroek called for 24-hour trading.

With the spotlight of the world on the Coast, Minister Jones wants to draw a line in the sand between the two parties.

“Everyone on the Gold Coast wants to be united in delivering the best Games,” she said.
